Seyed Farshad Hosseini Shirazi was born in Sari, Iran in 1964. He acquired his Doctor in Pharmacy degree from Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran in 1988. He has then been employed as a lecturer at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBMU) Pharmacy School in Tehran, Iran in the same year. Later in 1990, he moved to Cologne, Germany for a Clinical Pharmacology research fellowship program in drug monitoring. He also continued in SBMU as a lecturer until 1993 when residing in Ottawa, Canada to study at Ottawa U, faculty of Medicine. In Ottawa, he got his M.Sc. from the Department of Pharmacology in 1995, and his Ph.D. in 1998 from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. Simultaneously, he improved his computer knowledge to become a licensed software programmer in 1997. In 2005, he enrolled a course and thesis-based fellowship in Medical/Pharmaceutical law and Ethics at SMBU for 3 years with a thesis under Professor Graham Dukes, Oslo, Norway. His main research interests are a) Bio-spectroscopy for mathematical manipulation of biological sampels spectra to acquire concepts and hints in drug discoveries and human disorder diagnosis, b) Discovery and mechanisms of new anti-cancer drugs with moleculare, cellulalr, animal testing and clinical trials, and c) Understanding living systems and their discrimination from non-living ones. He has supervised more than 90 undergraduate, Ph.D., and post-Doc students worldwide. He is a member of many scientific organizations and associations, including the working group of Ethics and Autonomy in FIP, and a member of the editorial board of WHO World Pharmacopeia. He is currently a full professor at SBMU pharmacy school (supervising a research lab, and teaching pharmacology, toxicology, ethics, and cellular and molecular pharmacology), dean of the SBMU Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Center, founder of the leading international congress of Pharmacy Updates, founder of the international network of Pharmacy Students (IPharmS) with more than 14 branches worldwide, supervisor of an accredited lab for the industries GLP, QA, GMP, and Products Safety testing services based on OECD, FDA, and EPA, project manager of two international mega projects on drug discovery and drug development, and the chief editor of the English previewed scientific journals of international Pharmacy Acta (IPA), and the Iranian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Farshad enjoys mountain climbing, gardening, sightseeing, social and cultural studies, photography, and filmmaking as hobbies.
