Background and aims: Deep Brain Stimulation has emerged as a transformative approach in neurostimulation, playing a crucial role in treating movement and psychiatric disorders. Despite its broad applications, Deep Brain Stimulation technology and techniques continue to evolve to address limitations in precision and patient outcomes. This study aims to review advancements in Deep Brain Stimulation technology and evaluates its effectiveness in treating motor and psychiatric disorders, with a focus on recent innovations in device engineering and clinical applications. Method: This review synthesizes findings from recent studies published over the last decade, analyzing advancements in Deep Brain Stimulation device design, electrode improvements, parameter optimization, and programming approaches. It includes an assessment of clinical trials involving patients with Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, essential tremor, and treatment-resistant psychiatric conditions. Data were collected from clinical databases and analyzed to assess the effects of Deep Brain Stimulation on symptom management and quality of life. Results: The review highlights significant advancements, including multi-channel electrodes, novel programming algorithms, and AI-driven systems for adaptive stimulation. Findings indicate improvements in motor function and reduced symptoms in patients with movement disorders and suggest promising outcomes for those with severe depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Conclusion: Deep Brain Stimulation continues to show positive clinical outcomes in managing complex neurological disorders, with technological advancements enhancing precision and adaptability. Further research should explore personalized Deep Brain Stimulation approaches and assess long-term effects, which are critical for broadening clinical applications and meeting patient-specific needs. Expanding studies on AI integration in Deep Brain Stimulation devices could further optimize therapeutic results and minimize adverse impacts.
