Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI), a branch of computer science, simulates human cognitive processes such as thinking, reasoning, and learning. Its primary aim is to solve complex problems traditionally addressed by specialists, Artificial intelligence also has the potential to increase the overall quality of services provided in the healthcare industry. Meanwhile, the global rise in the elderly population has posed significant challenges to healthcare systems, particularly in ensuring their mental well-being. Adopting innovative approaches like AI may offer promising solutions in geriatric mental health care. This study aimed to review existing literature on the application of AI in supporting mental health among older adults. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in both English and Persian languages across databases including Google Scholar, SID, and PubMed using keywords such as “artificial intelligence,” “elderly mental health,” and “geriatric care.” A total of 30 relevant articles were selected and analyzed using content analysis methodology. Results: The findings revealed that AI can play a significant role in improving mental health services for the elderly, contributing to enhanced psychological and healthcare outcomes in this population. Conclusion: Given the demonstrated potential of AI in elderly mental health care, it is recommended that healthcare providers prioritize the integration and training of AI technologies in geriatric care strategies.
