Artificial Intelligence (AI) has had a significant impact on the pharmaceutical industry as a novel technology. Utilizing machine learning algorithms and big data analysis, this technology has expedited and optimized the drug discovery and design processes. Moreover, personalizing treatments based on the genetic data of individuals is considered one of the major achievements of AI in this field. This article examines the role of AI in pharmaceuticals and the challenges ahead. Background and aims: Artificial Intelligence is rapidly becoming a fundamental tool in various industries, and pharmaceuticals has not been left out of these changes. The discovery of new drugs using traditional methods is time-consuming and costly. The use of AI can significantly accelerate this process and assist in identifying effective drug candidates. In this article, we will explore the applications of AI in drug discovery, drug design, and treatment personalization. Method: AI, pharmaceuticals, drug discovery, drug design, machine learning, treatment personalization. Databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, IEEE Xplore, and SpringerLink were searched. All studies reviewed were published between 2010 and 2025. Results: AI can expedite the drug discovery process by analyzing chemical and biological data of molecules, predicting their properties. Machine learning algorithms assist researchers in simulating and optimizing suitable molecular structures. Additionally, this technology helps personalize treatments based on the genetic data of each patient. Although AI has high potential to change the landscape of pharmaceuticals, challenges such as the need for quality data, operational complexities, and the acceptance of this technology in clinical processes persist. Nevertheless, research indicates that the use of this technology can lead to reduced costs and time in drug discovery. Conclusion: AI in pharmaceuticals, as a novel tool, is capable of expediting the processes of drug discovery and design as well as personalizing treatments. Despite challenges, this technology promises significant transformations in the pharmaceutical industry and will aid in improving the quality of treatments and reducing costs.
