Background and aims: Colonoscopy is the best method for screening and diagnosing colorectal diseases, but in 20-45% of cases, good preparation is not performed, which leads to more time wastage, non-diagnosis, and re-doing. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the effect of using mobile application on bowel preparation before colonoscopy. Methods: The present study was conducted in an experimental design. Data were collected from 1-11-2023 to 1-3-2024. The participants in the study were 83 patients undergoing colonoscopy referred to Ayatollah Taleghani Educational and Medical Center, who were divided into two control and intervention groups using a random allocation program. In the control group, education was provided as usual, and in the intervention group, education was provided using the mobile application. The research tools were a demographic questionnaire and the Boston bowel preparation scale (BBPS). The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics in SPSS version 20. Results: 83 patients, 53 men and 30 women, with a mean age of 40.48 years, participated in the study. The level of poor preparation using BBPS was 5 in the intervention group and 17 in the control group, inadequate 27 in the intervention group and 16 in the control group, and adequate 10 in the intervention group and 8 in the control group. The result of Fisher's exact test showed a significant difference in patient preparation (P 0.01). Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that training using a mobile application is effective in preparing patients for colonoscopy. It is emphasized that a smart mobile application should be used in training patients undergoing colonoscopy.
