Background and aims: With the development of communication networks, especially the World Wide Web, there has been a move towards creating a common communication infrastructure for users, machines, goods, and, in general, all physical objects in the world to connect. The Internet of Things has created a platform in which everything from objects, machines, and people can be connected to each other and The Internet of Things enables objects to be remotely controlled across existing network infrastructures. It has also created opportunities for direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, enhancing productivity, accuracy, and economic benefits while minimizing human intervention. Method: The present study reviews articles in this field. Results: One of the most important applications of the Internet of Things in medicine is monitoring vital signs, as well as specific parameters of people with chronic and common diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory diseases. The desire of humans to live their daily lives without worry and the assurance of having supervision, as well as the reluctance to spend long days in the hospital, are among the reasons for using the Internet of Things. Therefore, the Internet of Things can significantly enhance the quality of life for the elderly. Conclusion: However, there are some limitations in the use of IoT, including its high cost, consequences of disconnection or failure, security challenges (e.g., hacking), dissemination of incorrect medical information, storage of large amounts of energy demand data, disposal of electronic waste, and financial challenges. But just as the Internet has made things much easier, cheaper, and reduced traffic, the role that the Internet of Things can play in lowering costs, energy consumption, traffic, etc., is immense. We can leverage this technology with the infrastructure we have in our country. Especially in the field of medicine and health, IoT is a fundamental necessity for rapid diagnosis of diseases, reducing the burden of responsibility on the patient, and minimizing traffic for patients.
