Abstract

Background and aims: Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Using advanced algorithms and machine learning, AI enhances patient care by monitoring and analyzing vital signs, predicting potential complications, and assisting with treatment decisions. This leads to improved outcomes for newborns and streamlines operational efficiency by automating routine tasks and providing valuable insights to healthcare providers. Methods: AI is transforming the NICU by bringing advanced technology to the forefront of neonatal care, allowing healthcare providers to intervene early and adjust treatment plans. AI algorithms analyze vast amounts of data from multiple sources, including electronic health records (EHRs), to predict potential complications in newborns, allowing healthcare providers to intervene early and adjust treatment plans. AI-powered systems continuously monitor infants’ vital signs and other health indicators, detecting abnormalities or worsening in real time and alerting medical staff to take immediate action. Results: AI analyzes medical imaging, such as X-rays and ultrasounds, to identify conditions, such as pneumonia or congenital anomalies, more accurately and quickly than traditional methods. Personalized treatment plans are created using AI to analyze individual patient data, improving the effectiveness of interventions. AI also optimizes resource allocation in the NICU by predicting patient admissions and discharges and ensuring that staff and equipment are available when needed. Conclusion: AI helps doctors make informed decisions quickly and confidently by providing evidence-based recommendations for treatment options. Also, Artificial intelligence, by analyzing large data sets to identify trends, outcomes, and potential areas for improvement in treatment protocols, research in neonatal care.
