Background and Aim: Brain tumor surgery is a highly complex and demanding procedure that necessitates extensive training and expertise. Virtual reality (VR) technology has emerged as a transformative tool in surgical education, offering immersive and interactive simulations of real-life surgical scenarios. This narrative review aims to examine the current applications and future potential of VR as a training modality in brain tumor surgery, focusing on its role in enhancing surgical skills and improving patient safety. Method: This review integrates findings from recent studies and reports on the use of VR-based simulators in brain tumor surgical training. It explores how VR environments enable hands-on practice of surgical techniques such as tumor resection, provide real-time performance feedback, and support individualized learning through repeatable and customizable simulations. The review also addresses the impact of VR on spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and decision-making skills essential for successful neurosurgical outcomes. Result: VR training platforms create a safe and controlled environment where surgeons-in-training can develop proficiency without risk to patients. Trainees benefit from the ability to repeat procedures, explore complex three-dimensional anatomical structures, and receive instant feedback, which facilitates targeted skill improvement. VR enhances critical competencies including spatial orientation and surgical precision. However, challenges such as the high cost of VR equipment, the need for highly accurate and realistic simulations, and integration into established surgical curricula remain barriers to widespread adoption. Despite these obstacles, technological advancements and increasing accessibility of VR devices suggest a promising future for VR-based surgical education. Conclusion: VR technology represents an innovative and effective approach to brain tumor surgery training by providing immersive, realistic, and customizable learning experiences. Incorporating VR into neurosurgical training programs has the potential to significantly improve surgical competence and patient safety. Continued development and integration of VR training tools will be pivotal in preparing the next generation of brain tumor surgeons for the complexities of their field.
