Background and Aims Telemedicine (TLM) is a telecommunication technique used to create, promote, and accelerate healthcare services. Due to its societal significance, this study aims to demonstrate the essential applications of TLM in the health sector along with the challenges, obstacles, and opportunities that lie ahead. Method The research collected various studies and reports relevant to the subject by utilizing MeSH terms in authentic and available international databases. Following this, 30 related articles were selected based on specific study criteria, and the required results were extracted from these selected studies. Results The findings indicate that TLM plays a significant role in more than 13 major areas of health and treatment, facilitating processes for both patients and medical staff in most of these areas. Although TLM offers many advantages, it also faces obstacles and challenges that call for further research to improve the management of this technology. Conclusion Given the high importance of TLM in the health sector across numerous countries, there is a pressing need for efforts to promote this technology and eliminate the existing barriers. Therefore, additional evaluations regarding the efficiency of TLM in terms of economics, speed of action, effectiveness, and infrastructure provision are essential to overcome the highlighted challenges and enhance the efficiency of this technology's utilization.
