Background and aims: Mobile health (m-Health), as a subset of electronic health and the most significant technological advancement in modern times, is considered a means to provide healthcare services, including in the field of medical imaging, through mobile communication devices. The aim of this review study is to examine medical imaging utilizing m-Health technology. Method: This review study was conducted in 2024. PubMed, Google scholar and Scopus databases were searched using the keywords imaging, medical imaging, companion health, companion health in medical imaging. Articles that were published between 1990 and 2024 were extracted and after careful study and extracting the required information, this information was reported in the present study. Results: A total of 26 articles were collected in this study. By removing irrelevant articles, finally 20 articles were examined. Recent studies have shown that mobile applications create extensive opportunities as an auxiliary tool in m-Health for medical imaging. Despite the numerous advantages of using mobile health and mobile applications, including mobile communications, wireless technology, facilitating service delivery, portability and powerful computing, its development faces fundamental safety and technical challenges. These challenges include the insufficient capacity of phones to carry radiology images, the lack of timely and quality activation of images, the inability to perform high-quality 3D imaging, and the transfer of images in a safe and secure environment. On the other hand, despite the positive acceptance of this technology and its widespread popularity, the knowledge regarding the use of medical imaging applications and the level of usage of mobile applications, especially WhatsApp in medical imaging among medical imaging students is very limited. Conclusion: With the increasing use of mobile phones for medical imaging, it is essential to take measures to obtain informed consent from patients, protect patient privacy, utilize reliable information sources, use a standard format for information transfer, and apply security measures (including password policies, methods to counteract unsuccessful login attempts, and the implementation of network administrator-controlled passwords). Also, for the wide use of these applications by students, written training should be included in their educational programs.
